Membership Requirements

Membership Opening April 1, 2024

American Legion Auxiliary has the following new requirements, above and beyond the application requirements, as follows.

2 Ways to Become a Member

  1. New members have a living American Legion Post 291 member in good standing. You need to provide a copy of Legionnaire’s current membership card.
    • Spouse 
    • Child 
    • Grandchild
    • Sister
    • Mother
    • If you are related to the Legionnaire in an alternative manner see the list at the end of this page.
  2. If your eligible veteran is deceased and you live in Newport Beach or Costa Mesa you are still eligible to join if you can provide the veteran’s DD214 (or other military papers). Per ALA National guidelines, provided at the bottom of this page. 

Membership transfers to the Auxiliary will not be accepted at this time, to support surrounding Auxiliaries.

MEMBERSHIP DUES (effective July 1, 2023)

SENIOR (18 Years and Over)
$400.00 ($250.00 one time Initiation fee, $150.00 Annual Dues)
 JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP FEE (Birth to 18 Years)
$30.00 ($20.00 one time Initiation fee, $10.00 Annual Dues)

Renew your Membership

NEW POLICY

Current membership cards MUST  be printed directly from your My Auxiliary profile.
Double-check that your email and mailing address are still correct while you are there!

Don’t forget to SIGN your new card.

Pay online

Click on the Login button below and enter your username and password to access your My Auxiliary account and then click the ‘Pay Dues’ button on your profile.  If you do not have an account, click the login button and choose ‘Create Account’ to get started.

You can pay with a VISA or Mastercard credit/debit card online. After your online payment has cleared, you’ll be able to print your current membership card directly from your My Auxiliary profile. A receipt will be emailed to you. National Headquarters will also send your membership card to you via USPS mail, so please make sure your current address appears in your online profile.

Pay by phone

Call National Headquarters at (317) 569-4570 with your member ID ready. You’ll speak with a real person who will assist you in paying your dues. If you would like to pay multiple members’ dues at the same time, please call them, as this is the easiest way to accomplish this task. You can pay with a VISA, Mastercard, or Discover credit/debit card. they will send your membership card to you via email and mail.

Eligibility Requirements for ALA Membership

Membership in The American Legion Auxiliary shall be limited to the:

(1) grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion; and

(2) grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of all men and women who served in either of the following periods: April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918 and any time after December 7, 1941 who, being a citizen of the United States at the time of their entry therein served on active duty in the Armed Forces of any of the governments associated with the United States during either eligibility periods and died in the line of duty or after honorable discharge;

(3) grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of all men and women who were in the Armed Forces of the United States during either of the following periods: April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918; and any time after December 7, 1941 who served on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States during either eligibility periods and died in the line of duty or after honorable discharge; and

(4) to those women who of their own right are eligible for membership in The American Legion.*

* A woman who is eligible for American Legion membership is eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary regardless of whether or not she is a member of The American Legion. However, eligibility of her female relatives (sister, mother, direct descendants) and/or spouse depends upon her membership in The American Legion.
